Metal Detecting
Metal detecting is a fast growing past time for many young and old.
It all started early but in the middle 1930’s a man named Gerard Fisher had a working system that would detect metal but needed some improvements and later in 1937 applied for a patent and was granted one.
There were others that improved the detectors and were used to detect land mines in the war of the 1940’s.
The first units were big and bulky and were used only for the military use.
As time passed Fisher made many improvements and is still making detectors today with some of the greatest detectors made.
Whites Electronics of Oregon followed up in the 50’s and has also made metal detecting a household name for him. Charles Garrett in the 50’s and 60’s joined in and with these three men the detecting world was here to stay.
There are now many metal detectors that have certain applications some of these are underwater, gold finding, relic hunting, coin and jewelry hunting. This is just a small list and many professional users use them on archeology sites to find old relics.
The uses of metal detectors are at airports and some schools and federal buildings and these are for protection purposes.
This is just a brief introduction to metal detection and some of the uses.
This site will be more about the metal detectors in use for hobbies and hunting lost items like coins and relics. This will include finding gold and searching beaches for jewelry.
